The osmotic effect of human skin ensures that trace elements and mineral salts are allowed to travel through it. Specifically, the osmotic pressure exerts pressure from the more concentrated to the less concentrated environment. Because sea water and algae have much higher concentrations of trace elements and mineral salts then we do, all of their goodness is allowed through the skin. Moreover, this penetration of active agents is made all the easier as the temperature of the water rises. Judge for yourself: in thalassotherapy, in a hot bath or a wrap, the heat provides you with a beneficial mineral input which is 10 to 20 times higher than that of a cold bath!
Nothing therefore can replace the effectiveness of a thalassotherapy cure. Especially when you add to that the fresh sea air, the iodine, the phenomenon of the tides, the mild climate and the sunshine of Southern Brittany.
